Marc Anthony: J.Lo's producer, stylist ... and purse?
What is Jennifer Lopez's secret to always looking so smashing on red carpets? Fashion advice from husband Marc Anthony.
"I pick out all her dresses, for the most part," Anthony said at Thursday's Us Weekly Hot Hollywood 2007 bash, which honored Lopez as Style Icon of the Year. "I'm the Simon Cowell of my household — really honest." But Anthony credits his wife for sparking his keen fashion sense, saying, "She developed my eye for it. I didn't realize I was so good at it, but she could have 20 designers and five girlfriends in a room, and she'll still say, 'Let's ask Marc.'" His favorite colors on Lopez are "cream tones and light blues. I like when she has smoky, dark eye shadow. That really brings out the color in her eyes and drives me nuts. That's my weakness." In keeping with her husband's preferences, Jennifer Lopez came dressed in a white Ralph Lauren suit with sparkly blue eye shadow. But no purse. "I'm her purse," clarified Anthony, outside the new Sugar nightclub. "At these things, that's my purpose and you've got to know what your purpose is." Concealed inside Anthony's black suit, he said, were Jennifer Lopez's eye shadow, lipstick and various other beauty items. "Sometimes my purse doesn't fit stuff and he has to carry things," acknowledged Jennifer Lopez, who in turn dresses Anthony. "She picks out everything I wear," he admitted. "She lays out three options for me." "Sometimes he gets picky," she said. "He'll say, 'I don't like those pants,' so I always give him choices." The couple came with best friend Leah Remini and her husband, Angelo Pagan. Remini wore a revealing dress from Lopez's Sweetface line. "I've learned a lot about fashion from Jennifer," said Remini. Such as? "To go out of your comfort zone. You've got to try things that are a little riskier." Still, Remini fretted that her dress made her look like "a little ballerina." Lindsay Lohan stopped by to pick up her award for Red Carpet Style. Also attending: Paris Hilton, holding court on a sofa with Carmen Electra. The 'N Sync boys (minus Justin Timberlake). Ryan Seacrest, Ali Larter, Rose McGowan and Ashlee Simpson, with beau Pete Wentz. Us Weekly editor Janice Min praised Jennifer Lopez and Lohan's looks. "Jennifer goes to so many events and looks amazing every single time, and Lindsay's very confident in her style," noted Min. "Lindsay doesn't tart herself up in the ways a lot of young actresses do on red carpets. She doesn't overdo the cleavage; she doesn't wear overly short skirts." Stopping herself in mid-sentence, Min had to laugh, recalling Lohan's controversial "no panties" fashion statement. Is that trend now retired? "Hopefully," said Min. "It was the big trend in 2006, but I think winter was harsh on that trend." Posted on 28 Apr 2007

Russian billionaire pays $2.67m for Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has been paid a staggering 1 million pounds ($2.67 millions) by a Russian billionaire to perform at a private concert. Andrei Melnichenko has asked the Latin star to put on a 40-minute show at his wife Aleksandra's 30th birthday party tonight. Melnichenko is paying 600,000 pounds for the performance and a further 400,000 pounds to fly J.Lo's entourage from the US to Britain where the party will take place.
The bash will take place in the Berkshire countryside although J.Lo and her entourage will stay in a top London hotel which is included in the 400,000 pounds payment. A source close to the singer said: "Andrei and Aleksandra are huge fans of J.Lo and were thrilled when she agreed to sing for them. It will be an unusual audience for J.Lo, as the bash will be packed with billionaires." The party, which will take place in a marquee decorated like a plush nightclub, will be an extravagant occasion, with the all-day event including a cabaret and circus act. Posted on 22 Apr 2007
The Jennifer Lopez Effect
The star-struck American Idol finalists weren't the only ones happy to see Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer Lopez's turn as an Idol vocal coach shows helped the Fox show slow its relative ratings slide, the latest Nielsen Media Research stats show.
Sure, Tuesday's Idol (second place, 26.8 million viewers), featuring the actress-singer coaching Sanjaya Malakar to a "wasn't-terrible" performance, per the ears of judge Simon Cowell, was 2 million viewers lighter than last year's Top 8 performance show (28.8 million). But the results show (first place, 28.6 million), featuring Jennifer Lopez taking the Idol stage and promoting her new Spanish-language album, Como Ama Una Mujer, was way up from the like show from last season (26.2 million). The Wednesday performance marked the first time in six weeks that an Idol improved on last year's outsized numbers. In that time, Idol has not wanted for big names, Peter Noone/Lulu week excluded. Gwen Stefani, Tony Bennett and Diana Ross all stopped by to counsel the finalists. But only Jennifer Lopez arrived with an entourage of viewers worthy of a diva. In her exit interview with reporters last week, ninth-place finisher Haley Scarnato called working with Jennifer Lopez "amazing." "She was great. She was very warm and comforting," Scarnato said, "and she had a lot to tell us, and you could tell she really wanted to help us." And all that in 10 minutes—the amount of time Scarnato estimated each Idol singer spent one-on-one with the Out of Sight star. It remains to be seen if Idol will return the favor, and boost Jennifer Lopez's album sales. Como Ama Una Mujer, a hit on the Spanish-language charts, hasn't done much on the overall album charts, selling fewer than 50,000 copies in its debut week, and falling out of the Top 10 in its second week. If all else fails, Jennifer Lopez can always return to Sanjaya outreach. Posted on 18 Apr 2007
Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony Suing National Enquirer
Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, are suing the National Enquirer in European courts over the tabloid's claims they were linked to a drug scandal, their Belfast lawyer said Monday.
Paul Tweed, who specializes in bringing U.S.-based celebrities' libel cases to British and Irish courts, told The Associated Press that actress-singer Jennifer Lopez, 38, and singer Anthony, 37, were seeking "a six-figure settlement" from the Enquirer, based in Boca Raton, Fla., and its parent company, American Media Inc. Tweed said the lawsuit would be filed Tuesday in a Belfast court, and in subsequent days in courts in Dublin, London and Paris. A telephone message left at the National Enquirer wasn't immediately returned Monday. A spokesman for AMI, Richard Balvo, said he had no comment. "It would be our policy to not comment on it at this time, Balvo said. The lawsuit also seeks an apology and retraction for an article that appeared in different versions of the Enquirer's U.S. and international editions. The version published March 12 in British and Irish editions alleged the couple were "caught up in a heroin scandal" -- and reprinted a 2004 picture of Anthony standing beside photographer Michael Star, who is facing charges of heroin possession and child pornography in the U.S. The article quoted an alleged friend of Star as saying Star and Anthony were friends. Tweed told the AP this was untrue and that Anthony didn't know Star even as an acquaintance. Anthony posed for the 2004 photograph, Tweed said, in keeping with his usual hospitality toward backstage concert fans. There has been a growing trend in international libel suits brought by U.S.-based celebrities in European courts, where libel laws favor the celebrity, not the publication. "The First Amendment restrictions in U.S. libel law make it virtually impossible for international celebrities or other high-profile individuals to sue successfully," Tweed said. "But with the advance of the Internet, and with U.S. publications now extending their distribution network into Europe, they must subject themselves to libel laws in these jurisdictions." Tweed said he received approval Monday from Jennifer Lopez's Los Angeles law firm, Lavely & Singer, to proceed with the lawsuit. It will be Tweed's second lawsuit against the Enquirer. In July 2006, he secured a published apology in the European edition of the Enquirer for an article that claimed pop singer Britney Spears was about to divorce Kevin Federline. Posted on 17 Apr 2007
